If the moderator had control of the candidates' mikes.

Agreed. They should be able to turn off their mics like they do at awards shows. Or just teach politicians how a properly timed, formal debate works.

That too. Or, have a debate that's longer than ninety minutes so that there's more time to actually get into details--assuming, of course, that the politicians are offering any. :P
